Two Delaware County state routes were scheduled to close Monday, Oct. 19, forcing detours that will ripple through the Powell and Olentangy area for the coming weeks.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) closed State Route 229 (SR 229) east of Weiser Road for 30 days, according to 1808Delaware's weekly ODOT road project report. The roads are scheduled to remain closed for 30 days, approximately through Nov. 18, weather permitting
Drivers who use the corridor will need to follow a detour through U.S. 23 to SR 98 to SR 529 to SR 746 to U.S. 42 and back to SR 229, or the reverse. An earlier ODOT report from the week of Oct. 4 listed SR 756 rather than SR 746 in that same detour sequence. Drivers should watch for signage on the ground.
The nature of the SR 229 work was not specified in either report.
A shorter closure also started that morning. State Route 257 (SR 257) between Ostrander Road/Warrensburg Road and SR 37 was scheduled to close Monday at 7 a.m. for a culvert replacement. That stretch is scheduled to reopen at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23.
ODOT posted separate detours depending on which side of the SR 257 closure drivers are on. Drivers north of the closure should take SR 257 to SR 37 eastbound to Section Line Road southbound to U.S. 36 westbound to SR 257. Drivers south of the closure should take SR 257 to U.S. 36 eastbound to Section Line Road northbound to SR 37 westbound to SR 257.
Both closures come on top of ongoing lane restrictions on SR 229 between U.S. 23 and the Village of Ashley. That project has limited traffic to daytime lane restrictions, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., since May 11 and is expected to continue through fall 2026. The I-71 northbound ramp to U.S. 36/SR 37 also remains reduced to one lane through fall 2026, according to the same report.
All work is weather dependent. Drivers can check real-time conditions at OHGO.com or follow ODOT District 6 on social media. SR 257 is scheduled to reopen at 3 p.m. Oct. 23; SR 229 will remain closed into mid-November.
