Olentangy junior Jodie Han won the OHSAA Division I girls individual state golf championship Tuesday, Oct. 13, with a two-day score of 129 at NCR Country Club in Kettering. She shattered the previous tournament record of 136 by seven strokes.

Han won by 11 shots.

She opened with a 6-under-par 64 on Monday and followed with a 5-under 65 in the final round on NCR's North Course. Over two rounds she made 13 birdies over 36 holes, battling what she described as a cold and a "low-grade fever," the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Han told the Dispatch the record meant more to her than the title itself, saying a championship lasts one year but a record like shooting 129 endures for years to come.

Olentangy coach Micah Conley called Han's approach "methodical." He said the junior had to grind mentally over two challenging rounds with heavy expectations on her shoulders.

Buettner, Orange surge to third

Olentangy Orange sophomore Amelia Buettner finished third individually at 141 after a final-round 69. Her performance helped Orange surge from fifth place after the first round to third as a team at 623.

Pioneers coach Todd Helline said he told his players to throw out their notes and have fun. He called third place his realistic expectation entering the tournament, noting Magnificat and Dublin Jerome were the top two teams in the state on paper.

Buettner was followed by junior Ellie Bach, tied for 28th at 159, sophomore Amelia Ricker, tied for 32nd at 160, and freshman Olivia Huffman, 36th at 163. Rocky River Magnificat won the girls' team title, with Jerome second at 606.

Heilmann finishes tied for 18th in boys field

On the boys' side, Olentangy Berlin junior Owen Heilmann closed with a 78 to finish tied for 18th with a two-day total of 151. He had opened with a 73 that placed him tied for 12th after Monday's first round, according to the Dispatch. Heilmann was the lone Olentangy-area competitor in the boys individual field.

Dublin Jerome repeated as team champion at 574. Brady Barnum repeated as individual champion with a two-day 139, and Blaise Barnum finished second at 141.

The Division I state tournament, held Oct. 12-13 at NCR Country Club, wrapped up the OHSAA championship season for boys' and girls' golf.
