Powell residents can drop off unused or expired prescription medications Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Kroger parking lot at 3975 W. Powell Road as part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Drug Take Back Day.
The site will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to WBNS, which published a list of central Ohio collection locations.
The biannual national event gives people a way to safely dispose of prescription pills they no longer need. The DEA, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio and local law enforcement agencies are participating in the collection effort, WBNS reported.
Collectors will accept tablets, capsules, patches and other forms of prescription drugs. Liquid medications should be sealed in their original containers, though WBNS noted that acceptance of liquids, gels and patches may vary by location. Vaping devices and cartridges are also accepted as long as lithium batteries are removed.
Syringes, sharps and illicit drugs will not be accepted.
The program has collected more than 21 million pounds of unused medications since it launched in 2010, according to the DEA. The most recent event in April 2026 brought in 642,410 pounds across 4,417 collection sites nationwide.
