Olentangy Berlin senior Soleil Cordell claimed her second Division I district singles title Saturday, Oct. 10, beating Watterson junior Ava Scott 6-2, 6-2 at Upper Arlington.

The win extended Cordell's winning streak to 52 consecutive matches across two seasons and put her four victories from a repeat state championship.

She never dropped a set in the district draw. Cordell dispatched Upper Arlington senior Alexa Roth 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals before handling Scott in the final. All but one of her 52 wins have come in straight sets, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Cordell, a four-star recruit committed to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, won Berlin's first-ever OHSAA state singles title on Oct. 17, 2025, at Lindner Family Tennis Center. She returns to the same venue for the state tournament.

"I've had a lot of fun with the USTA tournaments and I'm just going to go with the same mindset — just ready to play," Cordell said in a September profile by the Delaware Source, before the postseason began.

Berlin coach Richard Hunt praised Cordell's development in that same profile. He said her ability to play long points while hitting higher-quality winners has continued to grow.

Cordell was not the only Olentangy-area player to punch a state ticket. Olentangy Orange seniors Aaria Gala and Zoe Haar earned a doubles berth by finishing in the top four at districts. Gala and Haar clinched their spot Oct. 7 with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win over Upper Arlington's Cara Tomeo and Mia Ganvini.

In Saturday's third-place doubles match, Gala and Haar bounced back from a 6-0, 6-0 semifinal loss to Upper Arlington's Nancy Li and Zoe Lloyd. They beat Dublin Coffman's Eknoor Kaur and Emma Zerbi 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to finish third.

The state tournament begins Thursday, Oct. 15, at Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, with play continuing Friday, Oct. 16. Cordell will chase a second consecutive singles title while Gala and Haar compete in doubles.
