Blue Church Road north of State Route 521 closes again Aug. 31 for a second straight week of culvert replacement work in Delaware County.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) closure runs through Sept. 4. Drivers should follow the posted detour: Blue Church Road to Kilbourne Road to SR 521, or the reverse.
ODOT closed the same stretch from Aug. 24 through Aug. 28 for the first phase of the project, listed in state records as the SR 521/Blue Church Road Culvert Replacement. The Delaware County Engineer's Office flagged the project among active ODOT work in the county as early as Aug. 14.
ODOT's weekly construction advisory, published by 1808Delaware, does not say whether additional closure weeks are planned after Sept. 4 or whether the culvert replacement will be finished by then.
Lane restrictions through Sept. 5
U.S. 23 northbound and southbound between Hills Miller Road and SR 229 are each reduced to one lane daily. That work began Aug. 10 and runs through fall 2026. The posted hours in ODOT's advisory read "7 p.m. to 3 p.m.," a span that appears to contain a typo. Drivers should check OHGO.com for confirmed times.
SR 229 between U.S. 23 and the Village of Ashley has daytime lane restrictions from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. That project started May 11 and also runs through fall 2026.
All work is weather permitting.
