Blue Church Road south of SR 521 closed Aug. 10 and will stay shut through Aug. 19, forcing drivers onto a detour while crews replace a culvert at the SR 521 intersection.
The closure is the first of two phases. Once the south section reopens Aug. 19, the north side of Blue Church Road at SR 521 closes immediately and stays closed through Aug. 28. Together, the project will keep some portion of Blue Church Road blocked for nearly three weeks.
Detours:
- Aug. 10–19 (south of SR 521): Blue Church Road to Wilson Road to SR 61 to SR 521, or reverse.
- Aug. 19–28 (north of SR 521): Blue Church Road to Kilbourne Road to SR 521, or reverse.
The closures land on top of new US-23 lane restrictions that also began Monday. Both northbound and southbound lanes between Hills Miller Road and SR 229 are now reduced to a single lane daily from 7 p.m. to 3 p.m., a 20-hour squeeze that will last through fall 2026, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation's weekly road project report published by 1808 Delaware.
That means at least four simultaneous ODOT construction impacts are now hitting Delaware County drivers:
- Blue Church Road closure (new, through Aug. 28)
- US-23 one-lane restriction, Hills Miller Road to SR 229 (new, through fall 2026)
- SR 229 between US-23 and the Village of Ashley: daytime lane restrictions, 7 a.m.–7 p.m., ongoing since May 11 through fall 2026
- I-71 northbound ramp to US-36/SR 37: one lane since April 8, also through fall 2026
