Grayson Davis rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries Friday, Oct. 9, leading Olentangy Liberty past Hilliard Bradley 28-14 in Powell for the Patriots’ fifth straight victory.
The win gave Liberty its fifth straight victory and improved the Patriots to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division. Bradley, ranked No. 10 in cleveland.com's central Ohio poll entering the game, fell to 5-3 and 1-2 in the division.
Davis, a senior committed to Columbia University, set the tone early. He scored on a 1-yard run with 8:48 left in the first quarter after a 37-yard reception from quarterback Alex Leonard set up the score. He added a 10-yard touchdown run with 33 seconds left in the quarter, capping a 79-yard, nine-play drive to put the Patriots up 14-0.
Bradley answered.
Rashaud Truss scored twice in the second quarter. Bralyn Gordin's 85-yard catch from Declan O'Neil brought the ball to the Patriots' 6 and set up Truss's tying score as time expired in the first half.
Davis broke the deadlock with 43 seconds left in the third quarter, breaking several tackles on a 48-yard touchdown run that capped a 90-yard, 10-play drive including a fourth-and-1 conversion near midfield, according to the Columbus Dispatch. Gabe Levin's interception at Liberty's 7-yard line with 9:18 left in the fourth quarter protected Liberty’s seven-point lead and set up its final touchdown. Daniel Anyanechi then raced 49 yards for a touchdown to make it 28-14 with 6:04 remaining.
Head coach John Sansbury has leaned on the ground game during Liberty's streak. "The offensive line was great tonight,” John Sansbury said in a preseason interview with the Delaware Gazette, "Running backs, all three of them ran very hard.” That approach carried the Patriots through a second half in which they outscored Bradley 14-0.
