Lewis Center Road will close on the east side of its State Route 3 intersection in Genoa Township starting Sept. 2 for 30 days of construction work.

The Delaware County Engineer's Office said the closure will last through Oct. 2. Crews will use the time to complete a northbound right-turn lane, replace curbing and rebuild a section of the bike path.

The closure is the latest step in a months-long project to widen SR 3 at the Lewis Center Road intersection. County Engineer Chris Bauserman's office said on Aug. 31 that traffic signals were being installed at the intersection and that a traffic redirection is coming. Drivers should watch for posted signage.

Construction timeline

The project has moved through the intersection in stages since spring. The east side of Lewis Center Road reopened after paving in early May, and the west side closed after the school year ended. By late June, the eastern leg was complete and curbing work had begun.

The western leg of the intersection closed for paving in early June. Once that work wrapped up, the engineer's office said SR 3 widening and signal installation would follow.

SR 3 traffic lanes shifted east on July 13 behind temporary barriers and striping for a 45-day construction stretch. Paving on Lewis Center Road and turn-lane additions on SR 3 followed through July and August.

What drivers should know

The Sept. 2 closure affects only the east side of Lewis Center Road at the SR 3 intersection. The engineer's office has not announced when the new traffic signals will be activated or when the fully widened intersection will open to normal traffic. Oct. 2 is the furthest confirmed milestone.
