Powell's Operations Committee will publicly review how the city's signature summer festival performed financially when it meets Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 47 Hall St.

The sole substantive item on the agenda is "Powell Festival Review and Discussion," with an attached document titled "Powell Festival Financial Analysis" slated for committee examination.

The meeting is open to the public.

The two-day Powell Festival ran June 19–20 at Village Green Park in downtown Powell, drawing crowds for live music, food vendors and fireworks. The city has not released the financial analysis ahead of the meeting, so specific revenue and expense figures remain unknown until the committee convenes.

What is known: the Powell Development Corporation voted 9-0 on April 28 to approve a $25,000 sponsorship for this year's festival, a 25 percent jump from the prior year's $20,000 commitment. PDC Executive Director Sean Hughes told the board those are one-year contracts, not multi-year deals.

"In the past the sponsorship was $20,000 and this year there was an increase to $25,000," Hughes told the PDC board at its April 28 meeting when the agreement came up for approval.

The Operations Committee is chaired by Councilmember Leif Carlson and includes council representatives Carlos Crawford and David Lester, along with citizen representatives Amy Gestosani and Matthew Harvey.

At the committee's June 16 meeting, Police Chief Ron Sallows noted that officers were present at the festival and distributed public education materials to attendees.

The agenda does not indicate whether a follow-up vote or council action is planned after the review. Residents who want to hear the financial breakdown firsthand can attend the Aug. 18 meeting at City Hall.
