Olentangy Berlin senior Soleil Cordell has not lost a set this season.

The defending OHSAA Division I girls tennis singles champion is 9-0 through nine matches, dropping just nine total points while winning every match in straight sets, the Delaware Source reported. Five of those wins came by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Three more ended with Cordell giving up a single point.

Her toughest test so far: a 6-2, 6-4 win over Olentangy Orange's Aaria Gala on Aug. 24.

Cordell became the first athlete in Berlin Bears history to win a state championship when she captured the Division I singles title on Oct. 17, 2025. She finished her junior year 27-0, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Cordell beat Hudson's Emma Liu 6-2, 6-4 in the final after rallying past Mason's Addison Cassidy in a three-set semifinal. Cassidy had beaten Cordell 6-0, 6-1 in the 2024 state final.

The path to that title took years. As a freshman, Cordell went 22-5 and was district runner-up before going 1-1 at state. She improved to 29-4 as a sophomore and reached the state final before falling to Cassidy.

Bears coach Richard Hunt said Cordell's game keeps expanding. He said her ability to sustain long rallies while still hitting quality winners has grown the most.

"She's very skilled but she's going to fight for every point." Hunt told the Delaware Source. "I think she's grown with her overall game and has the ability to do just about everything."

Cordell played soccer and danced before settling on tennis. She said she approaches the high school season the same way she approaches her year-round USTA tournament schedule. She is committed to play college tennis at the University of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and plans to become a physician's assistant.

The Bears are 9-1 as a team and 1-0 in OCC-Cardinal Division play after a 5-0 win over Hilliard Davidson on Sept. 9. Sophomore Anaiya Jaiswal is 8-2 at second singles, and senior Berkeley Wallace is 9-1 at third singles.

Berlin was scheduled to play a league match at Dublin Jerome on Sept. 10.
