The railroad crossing on Penry Road closes Monday, Oct. 5, for repairs, County Engineer Chris Bauserman's office announced on X.

The Troutman Road crossing will close shortly after Penry Road reopens. No specific date for Troutman Road has been set.

Both crossings sit between Troy Road and U.S. Route 23 North in Troy Township, a corridor Powell-area commuters use daily. Each closure will block all traffic across the tracks for an estimated one to two days.

Contractor JMG Global LLC is performing the work on behalf of Norfolk Southern Railroad, as first reported by the Delaware Gazette. The Delaware County Engineer's Office is not doing the repairs itself. It is relaying the schedule it received from the contractor.

The two crossings are the last in a south-to-north series of Norfolk Southern repairs that began in September across Delaware County. Earlier closures hit crossings on E. Orange Road and Shanahan Road in Orange Township and Cheshire Road and Berlin Station Road in Berlin Township.

Penry Road and Troutman Road were originally set for Sept. 23–25, then pushed to Sept. 30–Oct. 2, before the Oct. 1 update set Penry Road for Oct. 5. That timeline slipped. An update posted Thursday, Oct. 1, on the Engineer's Office website confirmed the new Oct. 5 start for Penry Road.

All work is weather dependent, so dates could shift again. When the Engineer's Office first announced the repair schedule in September, it described the dates as tentative and weather dependent, advising motorists to follow posted detours.

A detour map on the Engineer's website shows alternate routes using Troy Road, Miller Road, Wiley Road and U.S. Route 23/Elmira Road. Drivers heading north on Troy Road can use Miller Road or Wiley Road to connect back to U.S. 23 and bypass both crossings.
