Thomas Worthington shut out Olentangy Liberty 6-0 in field hockey Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Patriot Stadium in Powell.

The Cardinals, unbeaten at 8-0-1, dominated from the opening whistle. Liberty never found the back of the cage, finishing scoreless in both halves, according to MaxPreps. Thomas Worthington tallied six goals, six assists and 29 steals in the Ohio Capital Conference matchup.

Hanna O'Malley, Thomas Worthington's No. 14, earned Player of the Game honors. The final score was submitted to MaxPreps by Cardinals head coach Terri Simonetti Frost.

Liberty's athletics department had promoted the contest as a showdown against the state's top-ranked team. The department posted on X before the game that the Patriots were welcoming the No. 1 team in Ohio to campus. In a separate post, the department offered free admission to students wearing blue.

The loss stings for a Patriots squad that had outscored opponents 49-13 through its first 10 games. Liberty entered 8-2 with wins over Bishop Watterson, Olentangy and Worthington Kilbourne, among others. The only previous losses came against Upper Arlington (3-1) and New Albany (4-0).

Liberty now sits 3-2 in conference play, fourth in the OCC standings. The Patriots are ranked No. 7 in Ohio by MaxPreps.

The schedule does not ease up. Liberty hosts Columbus Academy on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m., then travels to Dublin Coffman for a conference game Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. Two more OCC matchups follow: at Olentangy Orange on Oct. 7 and home against Olentangy Berlin on Oct. 16.
