ODOT plans to fully close U.S. Route 42 in Delaware County for up to 30 days this fall to fix a sinkhole caused by a deteriorated culvert pipe.

The sinkhole, between County Home Road and Kelly McMaster Road, has reduced the highway to one lane since July 21. A temporary traffic signal has been directing drivers around the site.

ODOT District 6 Public Information Officer Hannah Salem told Delaware Source the agency has ordered a replacement culvert, expected around the first week of November. "We're expecting the work to begin late October, early November, just dependent on that time frame of when the material comes in," Salem said.

Once the culvert arrives, ODOT will close U.S. 42 entirely for the repair. Salem told Delaware Source crews expect to finish within 30 days of receiving the materials. No one has been injured and no accidents have been reported at the site, she said.

ODOT has not announced a detour route. Salem said the agency will post construction updates through traffic advisories.
