Olentangy's fifth high school will rise at Sawmill Parkway and Bunty Station Road in Delaware Township as a 300,000-square-foot campus. Plans include an 800-seat auditorium and seven outdoor athletic fields.
District officials broke ground on the site June 1. The district estimates the project will cost more than $145 million, according to Fox 28 Columbus. The school is set to open for the 2028-29 school year and hold at least 2,000 students and 300 staff members.
The campus will include main and auxiliary gyms, an upgraded weight room, a media center, a café and a commons area. Outside, plans call for five practice fields and two fields for baseball and softball.
Olentangy is using prototype building designs already tested at other district schools. Chief Operating Officer Jeff Gordon said in November 2025 that equity across campuses drove that decision.
"So that's a really big priority for us, making sure whether it's a new building or an older building, we're offering the same opportunities for the students regardless of where they're attending," Gordon told the Columbus Dispatch.
Voters approved a $235 million bond on Nov. 4, 2025, with 56% in favor. The bond funds the high school, Deer Haven Elementary and other facility upgrades without raising the existing tax rate, according to the district.
More than 24,500 students started the 2026-27 school year in Olentangy, and the district projects roughly 2,000 more by the time the fifth high school opens, 1808 Delaware reported. At Olentangy Berlin High School, the district's newest, students have described crowded hallways that make it hard to reach class on time.
It does not yet have a name.
The district is accepting community name suggestions through Friday, Sept. 25, via an online survey. Names must be based on local history or geography; directional names and names of people are not allowed. The Board of Education is scheduled to vote on the final name at its Oct. 8 meeting, according to the district's website.
A districtwide redistricting process is also underway to set attendance boundaries for the new high school and Deer Haven Elementary.
Four community forums are scheduled, all at 6:30 p.m.: Oct. 26 at Olentangy Liberty, Oct. 28 at Olentangy Berlin, Nov. 2 at Olentangy High School and Nov. 4 at Olentangy Orange. Superintendent Todd Meyer is scheduled to announce the final boundary decision at the Dec. 10 board meeting.
