Olentangy families have until Sept. 25 to suggest a name for the district's fifth high school, set to open in fall 2028.

The school will sit on the northwest corner of Bunty Station and Sawmill roads in Delaware Township. The district posted an online submission form for community members to pitch names and include any historical background supporting their suggestion. The Olentangy Board of Education plans to review the submissions and vote on a final name at its Oct. 8 meeting.

There are rules. Board Policy 7250, titled "Commemoration of School Facilities," requires that school buildings be named after local history or geography. Directional names like north, south, east or west are off the table.

The district ran the same process in spring 2025 for its 18th elementary school. That round drew 387 submissions. The board reviewed the top suggestions at its April 9, 2025, meeting and chose Deer Haven Elementary School, according to a district announcement.

Both Deer Haven and High School 5 are funded by a $235 million bond issue voters approved in November 2025. The bond carried no new millage, meaning it did not raise the existing tax rate for Olentangy residents. The elementary project alone cost approximately $35.5 million, according to district records.

The new high school arrives as the district, Ohio's fourth largest with 28 schools, continues to grow. More than 24,500 students started the 2026-27 school year. The district adds more than 400 students in a typical year and expects roughly 2,000 more by the time the building opens, 1808 Delaware reported.

At the March 24 groundbreaking for Deer Haven Elementary, Superintendent Todd R. Meyer called the school "the direct result of the immense support of our community."
