Six railroad crossings in the Powell, Liberty Township and Lewis Center area will close for repairs over two weeks starting Sept. 14. A Norfolk Southern contractor is doing the work, and each crossing will be shut to all traffic during construction.
The Delaware County Engineer's Office posted the full schedule on Sept. 4. Each crossing is expected to be closed for one to two days, though the timeline is weather dependent.
Here is the closure schedule:
- E. Orange Road — Monday, Sept. 14, through Wednesday, Sept. 16
- Shanahan Road — Tuesday, Sept. 15, through Thursday, Sept. 17
- Cheshire Road — Wednesday, Sept. 16, through Friday, Sept. 18
- Berlin Station Road — Monday, Sept. 21, through Wednesday, Sept. 23
- Penry Road — Wednesday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Sept. 25
- Troutman Road — Wednesday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Sept. 25
The closures overlap in places.
Shanahan Road's closure begins while E. Orange Road is still shut, and Penry and Troutman roads close on the same days during the final stretch of the project.
Drivers on Berlin Station Road face a double disruption. A separate closure for road resurfacing will shut the road between Glenn Parkway and Gregory Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 14, according to a separate notice from the Engineer's Office. The railroad crossing closure on that road follows a week later, Sept. 21 through Sept. 23.
This is the second round of rolling railroad crossing closures in the area this year. The Engineer's Office, led by County Engineer Chris Bauserman, coordinated a similar sequence in June that affected Lewis Center Road, Shanahan Road, Curve Road, Harris Road, Shoemaker Road and Steamtown Road. Shanahan Road appeared on both the June and September closure lists.
No detour routes were listed in the available notices. Residents can check for updates on the Delaware County Engineer's Office website at engineer.co.delaware.oh.us.
