Six railroad crossings in Delaware County will shut down to all traffic starting Monday, Sept. 21, as a contractor for Norfolk Southern Railroad repairs the tracks.

The Delaware County Engineer's Office announced the updated schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The closures were originally set to begin Sept. 14 but were pushed back a week. Contractor JMG Global LLC is handling the repairs, moving south to north through the county. The work will hit Orange Township first, then Berlin Township, then Troy Township.

The schedule is tentative.

The Engineer's Office said the dates are weather permitting and could shift again. Each crossing will be closed for one to two days. Here is the road-by-road schedule:

  • E. Orange Road (between Green Meadows Drive and Blue Holly Drive, Orange Township): Monday, Sept. 21 through Wednesday, Sept. 23
  • Shanahan Road (between North Road and Hollenback Road, Orange Township): Tuesday, Sept. 22 through Thursday, Sept. 24
  • Cheshire Road (between Winterbourne Drive and Piatt Road, Berlin Township): Wednesday, Sept. 23 through Friday, Sept. 25
  • Berlin Station Road (between Glenn Parkway and Gregory Road, Berlin Township): Monday, Sept. 28 through Wednesday, Sept. 30
  • Penry Road (between Troy Road and U.S. 23 North, Troy Township): Wednesday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 2
  • Troutman Road (between Troy Road and U.S. 23 North, Troy Township): Wednesday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 2

Drivers should follow posted detour signs at each crossing. The Engineer's Office has not published specific detour routes.

The Engineer's Office is not performing the railroad work itself. It is relaying the schedule it received from JMG Global LLC, which provided the timeline on Aug. 28, the Delaware Gazette reported. The Engineer's Office described the closures as "railway crossing upgrades" in a statement issued at that time.

The full updated schedule is posted on the Engineer's Office website.
