Ohio is picking up part of the tab for a safe ride home over the Halloween weekend starting Thursday, Oct. 29.

The Ohio Traffic Safety Office launched its Project Plan Ahead program, offering up to $15 in free Uber or Lyft credits in seven counties, Fox 28 Columbus reported. Franklin County is one of the seven.

Credits can be used from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. each night, beginning Oct. 29 and ending early Nov. 2.

Powell and Liberty Township sit in Delaware County, not Franklin. But rides that start in or end in a participating county qualify, according to the program's website. A Powell resident returning from a gathering in the Franklin County portion of Columbus could qualify.

The other participating counties are Butler, Cuyahoga, Hamilton, Lucas, Montgomery and Summit.

How it works: Riders visit the Project Plan Ahead website, reveal a code and apply it in the Uber or Lyft app at the time of travel. Rides cannot be scheduled in advance. Credits are available while supplies last, and riders pay any fare above $15.

The safety office reported that 19 people died in fatal crashes during the five-day Halloween period in 2025, with 13 involving impaired driving, according to Fox 28 Columbus.

The program is not affiliated with or endorsed by Uber or Lyft. Rides may be limited, delayed or unavailable, and the program advises riders to have a backup plan.

Credits can be redeemed through 3 a.m. Nov. 2 via the Project Plan Ahead website.
